There is something special about a good film. It has the power to make a person think and feel and it can leave you thinking for a long time after it ends. The Johnny Cash biopic, "Walk the Line" did that for me.
The funny thing is that is was not an excellent movie. It was a good film but not a great film. But the performances were absolutely amazing. Joaquin Phoenix left the audience dazed even after the lights came on. Phoenix like Cash lost a brother at one point to a tragic and untimely death and both the man in black and Phoenix fought public battles with drug and alcohol abuse.
The best thing about the film in my opinion was the way that Cash loved June Carter who was played convincingly by Reese Witherspoon. She fought for Cash before and after they were married. In his own way Cash fell in love with her when he first heard her on the radio when he was only 10 years old and he continued that love until he died just four months after she did. To this day some people still believe that he simply gave up living after she was gone. Maybe he had no idea how to carry on without her. My dad would have a hell of a time living without my mother. I still think in my heart that I would not be alive if it wasn't for Megan.
I don't feel like I have a whole lot to offer the world but I do have to be here to love Megan. She is so much stronger than I am. She could do it without me. She has so much fight in her and I respect that with all of my heart. How does she do it? She can't explain it to me even though I have asked. I'll never understand how she makes it to every appointment that I have. I'll never comprehend how she fixes me up whenever I fall.
Take the time to see this incredible film. Take the time in your life to love someone with every fiber of your being. Nothing in the world feels as good as that one moment when you can say to yourself, "This must be it. I can't imagine tomorrow without the person that is by my side right now."
Smile today. Love today. Hold someone tight today.
